Kharagpur being one of the places of relevance in the British Raj Bengal due to the presence of the Kharagpur Railway Junction and the legendary Hijli Jail had a large number of Anglo Indians who still form a bulk of the local population and also evident from the fact that the city is filled with buildings which clearly reflect the British Architecture.
